weird whild whacky newsweek
Aug. 13th, 2004 01:38 pmAs if yesterday's gay news was not enough (for those not paying attention: the govn'r of NJ is gay. SF marriages are voided by the CA supremes.) Today was another sad day of news: Julia Child, dead at 91 (3 days before her birthday).
I am at a loss. I loved Julia. I enjoy her bluster and forthrightness. I loved that she made mistakes (like anyone else) and forged full steam ahead. And upon reading her obit in the NYTimes, I loved that she refused to endorse and products b'c she felt as a figure of public broadcasting she should not cash in on her fame. She would not leave PBS simply because she wanted to stay were she was planted. She sued restaurants that tried to use her name in their advertising. She stood up for her beliefs and loved life fully. She believed in the simple things when it came to food.. and was not afraid of cream or butter.
I think I'll go home tonite and cook something from one of her books.
