As if yesterday's gay news was not enough (for those not paying attention: the govn'r of NJ is gay. SF marriages are voided by the CA supremes.) Today was another sad day of news: Julia Child, dead at 91 (3 days before her birthday).

I am at a loss. I loved Julia. I enjoy her bluster and forthrightness. I loved that she made mistakes (like anyone else) and forged full steam ahead. And upon reading her obit in the NYTimes, I loved that she refused to endorse and products b'c she felt as a figure of public broadcasting she should not cash in on her fame. She would not leave PBS simply because she wanted to stay were she was planted. She sued restaurants that tried to use her name in their advertising. She stood up for her beliefs and loved life fully. She believed in the simple things when it came to food.. and was not afraid of cream or butter.

I think I'll go home tonite and cook something from one of her books.

Something with wine perhaps, then you could use her method...a splash in the pan, and a splash for the cook! She was pretty cool. You had to love her.

And what is up with the NJ gov? They say that there may be more to why he resigned and I, for one, certainly hope so! So he cheated on his wife (bad, but not enough to be removed from office IMO) and the gay thing is irrelevant (though I think he is probably bi, but whatever.)

The SF marriages being voided just pisses me off.

re: NJ guv. there is supposed to be a huge scandal that will blow open next week and to avoid the media blowout and speculation he came out now. something to do with trying to get his lover a position in politics that he wasn't qualified for.. it didn't fly so her gave him a position of power (paid) that did not involve anything like work.. scandal. like no one in gov't has never seen that happen. and if he's bi.. big fuckin deal. barney frank did say tho that he came out at the same age (47) and that yr of his life was very difficult. and he could understand why McGreevey would step down b'c you "can't run the state on autopilot"

the SF thing pissed me off as well. I basically flipped my finger off to gov't last nite. and deservedly so.
