I love knit nite
Sep. 17th, 2004 02:29 pmSo last nite was knit nite at TW. I just love knitting there once a month. The people are so very friendly/wacky/silly/concerned and extremely nice. Margaret had taught me to knit toe-hats last month so I brought her my one and a half finished socks to show her. She was very happy to see them (and everyone was impressed by your yarn
kpunkin Rozcar showed up. Marfa showed up. Heck it seemed like the whole fam damily was there. People talking about things, stories flowing around the room. Sharon came for the first time and she brought brownies b'c she was worried about showing up empty handed. Diana was making a scarf that was delish- 4 yarns!!! it was PINK! and I think her sister will love it. I mean who doesn't love disco ball sequins on a string? Marfa was working so hard on her afghan sq. And Roz was working on a lush drk red scarf that made me feel a little drooly. I worked on a scarf for Cassa's hubby and swatched on a pair of 2s.
I came up with my thunderbolt discovery this morning. I like to tinker with the patterns of whatever I make (no surprises there) but I always tinker to put my own personal thumbprint on it somehow. And when I have something that I think is really working (and here is the thunderbolt) when I get to the part I want to deviate I ALWAYS put in a safety line now. I think it makes me feel more confident about my knitting. Sort of an AHA! moment where I can say.. this isn't working, scratch it back to the original plan. Somehow this safety line lets me be wild and wacky in a way I think I wasn't before. And that is where the confidence and the chance to be a more advanced knitter come in. Both in technique and in mental outlook. I cannot say I am a super fabu knitter, but I can say I will give something difficult a try simply because I can. And if I have the safety line I can rip it back when I need to learn and re-learn it.
