Does anyone seem to have this? I have moments of Knitters Intuition. Moments where I say to myself: self, this is just not going to work out. Or even moments of: I think I need to change this part here and make it more flattering. And it works (or it doesn't.)

Is it like gaydar? (which really only works sometimes. I remember once, with an ex, walking in rural Indiana and she was quite confused by the amount of women wearing flannel.) A moment of being in tune with yourself and your knitting. A zen-like experience where you suddenly "know" what is happeneing with the individual stitches and their place on the whole larger garment?

I had a jarring moment today with Hush Hush. I felt, suddenly, that it was way too small. Doll sized small. Maybe it was the size of my hands, maybe it was because I was in a decrease row and the number of stitches no longer felt "right," maybe it was because I had a strange salad today for lunch. All I can say is that I panicked. I put the garment on waste yarn and measured. My gauge HAS changed, but not by much. The garment is pulling in a little due to the ribbing on the sides as well as the fact that I am doing Stst after very flouncey spreadable lace fan work. But overall my sizing is fine. I called my friend in a moment of panic and got her husband. "what are you doing there?" is what I blurted out instead of "hello." Nice, eh?

I wanted to call her and check how she felt about the sizing.. when she had knit hers it was WAY too big. I thought we were going to have an Alice in Wonderland moment with my WAY to small size. But it is fine, the crisis is no longer. It is simply this: I am not a tiny person. I am a nice medium sized person- with accidental moments of pleasantly plumpness. My friend, she is small. Very small. Knitting for a teenager small. I told her the dimensions I was getting (I changed the amount of sts needed for the pattern to compensate for my gauge. I CO 240 instead of 320) and she honestly told me it would fit. I'm very happy for her. She also told me that if it was stretchy (like I mentioned to her) she would block it herself if it appeared too slinky. Honestly, this dress/nightgown is gonna be killer on her. I mean drop-dead sex-ay. She is very excited to try it on. And she is waiting to knock his socks off. She finished the bra and has started the panties from that issue of knitty too. She has the yarn to make the Lolita legs and Betty (cinch waist) for the trouseau. Her hubby is going to be grinning from ear to ear in Paris. I guess they don't call it the city of lovers for nothing.

So, I would love to hear other people's stories about their Knitter Intuition. Has it failed you? has it been the thing that fixed the garment from hell? Has it gone on vacation, leaving you with a weird and not quite identifiable object on your doorstep?
