friar sockes
Aug. 23rd, 2004 10:00 amSo on the way home from Dani's house and the l;and of quilting I did the cuff of the toe-hat. (now a toe hat with an optional heel extension and a ribbed for her pleasure cuff.) Sue has informed me that it no longer can be called a toe-hat.. I tried Monsieur Toe-Hat.. but she started singing Friar Sockes. So we giggled all the way home. I have a picture of the Friar in the car (as a sock puppet talking to children from a convertible I could make some money.. I had plenty of kids giggling) That I will put up tonite.
The quilting. Wow! Can I say how much I love Quiltstock? Bob and Jim (Jim taught the class) are great guys. Bob works in NYC during the week and the store on weekends. Jim works full time at the store. Their classes are wonderful, informative, and well thought out. They teased me when I was there.. They hear people who visit Woodstock say to them "if I lived closer I would take a class." Their response: do you live closer than Philly? Because we do have someone who comes up to take classes. They told me that they use me as a selling point. The Magic Tile quilt is relatively easy (for my first big, bed-sized quilt I wanted easy.) It is a 4 cut nine-patch. You line up your squares and cut them, sewing the leading between the cuts, then you play the whole top switched with bottom and re-sew the square.. And do it all again for 4 cuts. The design is yours.. and when its done you have a single bed sized quilt. Double it (24 squares instead of 12) and you have a queen sized quilt. So I am making the larger one. I am on the middle of the 3rd cut. Its pretty exciting. I can't wait to go home and do more. I think this will be a great christmas present to Sue. I even think I'll sign up for Jim's finishing class that will be Thanksgiving weekend. That way I can have a goal date for finishing this thing!.
Other than the friar I did no knitting, but I taught Dani how to knit her own socks. She is very happy right now. All she wants to knit are socks. I made her very happy by teaching her.
