I wrote all this out last nite and hit post only for it to have timed out on me. *sigh. And knowing that I am long winded means I'll probably forget something. Please bear with me.
NYC on Monday was fabu. Sue and I took the day off from our respective jobs and took the train in from Hamilton Sq. for our first anniversary. the good: lovely day, lovely weather, lovely girlfriend. the bad: everything we planned to do was closed. I knew museums would be hard to get into.. but libraries and yarn stores? puh-leeze. heehee
Things we did plan and do were teatime at the expat hangout Tea and Sympathy. (see the review here ) Lovely apricot crumble for me and luscious lemon drizzle cake for Sue both with CUSTARD! yummy. And a jazz club called the Blue Note where we saw the Berkerly scholarship jazz ensemble. They were quite good and the dinner there was nummy. And we did pop into one of my favorite places: Kate's Paperie its just fun to walk around and look at all the different stationaries and papers and be wowed at all the creativity in that store.
You can see we had fun. (trying a new photo spot online. let me know what you think)

and we did see these doggies, but we thought there were 3 of them till we got closer. that one on the right was a big ham. he loved posing for me. all he wanted was his closeup mr. demille.

and on to the knitting topic segment of this post. I started another beaded bag. You knew I had to. The darn christening gown is getting to the uh, boring stage. (or what I fondly call I'm sick of this item and I want to toss it into the drink stage.) 2 arms! really, what was I thinking?? anywho. I got mad at the gown, put it down and cast on another beaded bag that my mom bought the yarn for. (Yes, I completely ignored all the other projects I had with me. I called it swatching, but I knew I was really just knitting another item: KAI) it is debbie bliss wool/cotton in black stranded with s.charles a glittery metallic variagated with mohair. i think it looks lovely but in the pic you can barely see the beads for all the glitzy s.charles yarn. I'm having a quandry about it though. Since I decided to strand I went up a needle size but forgot to take the number of stitches down to compensate for size. my 4 inch sq bag will be more 6-8 inch sq. should I just frog and bring down the number of stitches or would you forge ahead and say to heck with it, its a lovely bag??
yesterday I went with jackiemanni to lunch at 12th st cantina. What a fantastic lunch. Food and company were excellent. She really gave me a boost about the gown. I have 4 inches of one arm knit and I was starting to worry that it was freakishly HUGE and would make the baby look like it had wings or something. She gently reminded me that babies can look like the michelin man and that a little extra arm room was a good idea. She also brought me a really cool beaded bag book to borrow. I love some of the ideas, but I think I'll need to psych myself up for pearl embroidery thread and size 000s! who knows, maybe I'll adapt a pattern.
Speaking of adapted patterns. I have re-written and changed the IK fair isle bag pattern. I converted it to be knit in the round, changed the needle size from 1s to 11s and plan on felting it. I took out her texture stitching since felting would not work too well with texture and added 4 holes for a drawstring closure. I have yet to get the yarn to knit it. I'm putting it on the back burner for now as I have too many other projects on my plate. I promise I will let you know how it goes. And if anyone wants to be a guinea pig, let me know.
