Happy birthday, Suzanne!

purleweToday is my beloved Suzanne's 30th birthday. yup, she's a youngun'. (i'm teasing her b'c I'm still older) I am so happy for her today. She loves her birthday, being that it is cinco de mayo and all. I think that she's a really wonderful person and deserves a nice day. Tonite we are going to our favorite korean bbq place. Last weekend we went to the shore to play in the sand. She had a nice lobster dinner and everything. This weekend we go to the Poconos to visit her mom for mother's day and to celebrate both Sue and her mom's birthdays (her mom's was the 2nd). So Sue is getting a full week of birthday fun!
last nite I separated books for storage. I went through a ton of old pics from college and high too. I tossed any where I was like "um, who are these people" which is entirely possible since I was the photographer for so many non-profits and activities. I also found some great old memories and put into piles some pics that should just be sent to people. I was planning on making brownies for sue, but got caught up in the keep, trash, store that i forgot until we went to bed. Good thing my favorite recipe is so easy to make. I got up this morning, melted the choc and butter, whipped the eggs and sugar, mixed them with the flour and popped them in the oven before 7:15. by 8am they were done! YUMMY. they will be a welcome addition to dinner tonite.
a year ago yesterday Sue asked me out. she told me it was her birthday the next day and so for our first date (a week later) I made her brownies, thinking that one should give a gift, I mean its a BIRTHDAY. Ever since, sue has been in love with my brownies (and my cooking and me too.) and so brownies are the best way to say Happy Birthday. not some dry old cake (j/k). I make nick malgeri's brownies from his chocolate cookbook (also the same recipe in his cookie cookbook) it is really the best recipe I have come across and I get rave reviews from everyone on it. the secret is this: after baking take the pan out of the oven and let it sit. yup. overnite is best, but today it will sit from 8-6ish and i think that is long enough. it is hard..i mean we are talking chocolate here!! but it really makes the difference. perhaps wanting makes the tastebuds grow fonder?
