Well, this weekend was a welcome retreat from the daily grinds. One thing I don't often talk about on here is how small my place is. I have a very small apt. It makes NYC apts I've seen seem spacious. I'm constantly asked HOW do I live there. (with the exception being this past week where a guest said "wow. this is more space than I thought you had..." Makes me wonder how much less space he imagined.) Not to mention live there with a partner. It has 2 whole rooms and a small kitchen and bath. I probably could pace it at twenty paces.. I'm guesstimating 400 sq ft. So when we get a phone call for a petsitting gig, or a free weekend at the shore condo we jump on it. I was still bummed I wasn't with [livejournal.com profile] boogie_babe at Halcyon Yarns, but hey.. free place to stay that was bigger than a breadbox? Sure!

I spent considerable time knitting in the car, in the dark, on the drive. Considering that we had to make the drive several times (don't ask. keys were involved and we didn't have them) I felt quite good about finishing something. No, not hush hush. I left that this weekend to its own devices. I needed something quick and big. Something that would make me remember why I like size 3 needles again. So I whipped up a little felted purse for a gift. I made it up as I went along (as always) but I felt good about it. I need to give it a tweak or 2, line it, put those handles on and give it a nice button or clasp. It is still a secret for the receiver, but I'll make sure I take a pic of her with the bag when she gets it in Nov.

I also started another holiday present: felted hat for Sue's mom. I bought the lamb's pride bulky last time at Tangled Web and I had some fuzzy alchemy in my stash for the brim. It is surprisingly less fuzzy that I remembered it. The colors make it look like it is on fire and I hope it felts well. I am not exactly a fan of the novelty yarns. I feel that they can be used well in very few things. I hope that this will be one. I have knit it 1/2 way. Perhaps I'll finish it by this weekend and full it at my aunt's house.

Pics tonite or tomorrow.

ya know, when I moved in I wanted the place to be small, and cozy... I should have been more specific. I was alone at the time and now, well, add a 2nd person and stuff does not fit in there. But this was supposed to be temporary and now its starting to wear me thin. That and well.. sunlight would be nice. I live in a basment with no windows to the sun. {Previous living space: 1850 sq ft. with windows.. floor to ceiling windows.)
