looooong weekend
Sep. 20th, 2004 10:52 pmSo this weekend my mother was in town. I spent the day on Saturday both sightseeing in Philly and babysitting for a 2 yr old. Spent some time in the new Constitution Center. I found it really well done and extremely timely. It explores (through multimedia, no less) the ways the constitution effects us daily. I enjoyed the little bits I got to see (Ben Stein answering questions while sitting in a deli was my favorite) and I think that my cousin (12 yr old) really would have enjoyed a full day there. It had very current events (gay marriage, illegal aliens, war) as well as past events that shaped the document (woman's right to vote for one.) I enjoyed it fully and plan to go back for a longer period of time.
Sunday we went to New York City and had fabulous weather. Just look how nice it was when we arrived.

We had some yummy dim sum and then started our trek about town. Sue and I split off and headed to Strand Books and then over to Partners & Crime. While we were there I decided to head over to Purl and see what they had. I think Purl was a lovely little shop and I bought some Louet Merino for gloves. I have a yardage question about them for anyone willing to venture a guess. I am making gloves for my uncle who has gigantic hands. (The width of his one is the width of my two hands side by side.) So I got 1 and a half times the amount of yarn I thought I needed (675 yds of worsted weight yarn) in drk grey/green. Anyone want to venture a guess to see if I worked it out right? His son is going to be sending me a line drawing around his hand. I am hoping to use it as a template. What do you think?
It was still pretty when I walked back to meet Sue. See?

Then we met up with my mom and saw a little bit more of NYC before we headed out of town. I really liked this picture.

And, of course, no trip to NY would be complete without the requisite hand held self portrait.
