I am just full of suzy homemaker type sensibilities. (of course my plans are always grander than the outcome, but fantasy can be fun if I don't set my expectations too high)

last nite I went home and made dinner. it was a rainy drizzly day and sue has been dying for some potato and ham soup. Not wanting to use the ham, I opted for a yummy potato, tomato and cheddar soup. YUMMY! and tasty. I think this one will be a repeat soon. I'm a big soup fan. I love to eat it, and would every day if there was fresh and yummy soup to be had. this one used 2 cups of beer, 6 potatos, 5 tomatoes and 3/4 lb of cheddar. if anyone is interested I'll send them the recipe. yummy with good homemade bread (which did not get made sadly. I was too hungry to wait any longer). Tonite, chicken and veggie, plus perhaps some rice. I want to start eating more rice. I used to eat it everyday... I guess I just miss it as a comfort food.

Afterwards I started what I have dubbed in my mind as "the project." I invited sue to live with me last summer b'cos she was planning on only staying in the country for a few months. When her (our) england plans were dashed she has just stayed here and i cannot stress how TINY my space is. Ya know the phrase NY minute? well my minute is shorter by about 30 seconds. I moved in planning on living alone. When she moved in we planned on being squished for only a few months (leaving most of my items in residence while she put her stuff in storage) now with both of us in here and I know that it is my turn to give up some space. I need to quit hogging it all! We thought about moving, but honestly that would eat up any fundage we have saved. staying is the only option. So I have started slowly but here is what has happened and what WILL happen.

*boxes have gone (and will be going to) storage. mostly books and a few items that are really for use in a bigger space.
*a wall of bookshelves and storage against the back living room wall are gone as of last nite. All the books are in a tremendous pile in the living room, but they will be sorted and packed. one bookshelf is being used for storage sideways in the bedroom closet. the livingroom closet was mostly badly used space. now 2 short bookshelves are stacked inside with all my cookbooks on them. the last bookshelf will have to either goto storage or be hung from the wall on brackets for more books (or plants or yarn or knick nacks etc) This clears up like 3x4 sq feet of room in the apt. and you can really feel it.
*the wall that was cleared now has the futon against it and I moved the dining room table back there too. Those books on the middle of the floor will most likely be piled and sorted there tonite.
*the bikes will eventually go against the dining room table until I figure out if I can leave them in the hospital parking lot locked to their bikerack. I left them at work all winter, but they kinda wondered why I wasn't taking them out everyday. When I start riding everyday I will most likely take one back to work. with the weather all wonky that won't be tomorrow :)
*kitchen will be overhauled and anything I am not using often will be put in storage
*bedroom. This will be one of those all weekend plans. EVERYTHING needs to move. it will include a shift to the left (i feel rocky horror sing along is coming here) I just want to rotate everything about 180 degrees. Most likely we will have to shut the door to the room and move everything in one day as I can't see where we would put it in the meantime. this will make it so i don't have to enter the bed over poor sue and she can have her own alarm clock to get herself up. I think maybe one more piece of furniture will go from here. maybe 2. with that done I want to evaluate my clothing. I threw away a shirt last nite. it had stains on it and the sleeves were too short. I tend to wear clothes past their DOA stage. I just hate throwing away perfectly usable (but not good looking) objects. I have some mending to do and perhaps I can pare my clothes down. I tend to wear the same old same old over and over (which I do not mind) but I also need to realize that sometimes I look shabby and let go of some of them.

well with 400+ sq ft of space this is all I can do. Hopefully the living room will be done soon and I can get the bedroom done before june-ish. so no knitting last nite, but a real sense of accomplishment this morning when I sat down and looked at the floor and realized I had a bigger patch than when I started. (albeit full of books)
