UFO weekend

purleweI hope everyone had a great weekend! I sure did. Let's start with the knitting content.
No, I didn't see any little green men running around. I simply cast myself on UFO (unfinished object for the non-knitters) island. Taking only 2 UFOs, the CW, and the yarn and beads for a future project with me on my train ride to my aunt's house. I finished the first UFO, my mother's felted Noro bag, on the train ride up. I only had a few rows to complete, a flap to pick up, and miles of i-cord to make and attach. I got up the next morning and set to work on Sue's vest, which has been languishing since I learned to pick up stitches for the sleeves. I finished the last sleeve and picked up and finished the v-neck while on the way to Morehouse Merino. So I got myself off UFO island before I landed at the yarn store!

Got some yummy yarns at Morehouse. I picked up a new pattern of theirs called Lola. It is a t-shirt in laceweight merino. Also bought 3 skeins of double length laceweight (for CWII), a skein of worsted cranberry (for the other half of a seaman's scarf), a skein for the current CW (it is denim blue), 3 broken skeins of laceweight, and 3 skeins of worsted for Michelle at Everybody Loves Saturday Night blog. I found out that they are now making quad skeins of their laceweight (enough for the Lola) and a new worsted weight called ultra fine which is SOOOOO lovely and soft. I resisted temptation, but Judy couldn't. The force was too strong.
Had a lovely time at the baptism. It was really good to see my friend Dani and her hubby, Steve. I finally got to meet and spend time with Christina, the new baby. And spent a considerable amount of time with Steve's family- his parents and brothers. The baptism went off without a hitch. The outfit FIT and looked lovely on her. Sadly, because Sue couldn't attend I have no pics of the baby in the outfit. But the parents said they will send one my way.
Later on that day I got to drop by Yarn Central in Hopewell Junction and pick up some yarn there. The yarn is by Alchemy Yarns. I saw this last time I was there, but decided not to get it. I've been thinking about the colorway ever since. Even though I didn't like the weight/style (novelty string/nylon) I decided to buy it and see how the color knits up before I invest money on some worsted wool or dk cotton over the internet. I spent the afternoon hanging out with Dani. Looking at her design wall for her next quilt. (tres cool!) Finished up the lining for Judy's purse. And showed Dani how to knit beads into your work.
Yesterday I spent some time with Judy, made a cherry pie, and took the train home to Philly. I stopped in NYC to see Michelle and do a yarn trade. I got a cone of teal cotton (Silk City 3/2 Perle mercerized cotton) for the 3 skeins of worsted. I forgot to take a picture this morning in my too sleepy state. Sorry. We sat at Coliseum Books and knit and talked. I had a lovely time with her. I had a little yarn envy over her Audrey and Rowan Calmer (so soft!) Michelle knits beautifully. I continued on with the beaded bag I am making for Rowena. I had just ripped back on my Charlotte (more info in a minute) and so spent my time knitting the bag and talking about a little bit of everything. Wonderful way to stopover and meet a delightful person.
And finally: Lessons from Charlotte #32
Charlotte is fickle. Do not knit Charlotte when visiting people. Charlotte likes to have attention paid only to her. It doesn't matter if you know the pattern by heart. (Even if you are still following the chart faithfully she will bewitch and fool you!) Spend quality time with your Charlotte alone. She prefers to think that she is the only one in your life. And make sure that safety line is in! Thank goodness. I only had to rip a little bit. I was off by 1 stitch. I tried to forge on but realized later it set everything off kilter. So anything I accomplished on Charlotte Sunday was ripped out on the train back to NYC. I got 4 rows done after the rip before I met Sue at Market East.

I also told her that if she had a sudden run on shawls a few weeks ago it was b'cos I posted the website to KR and too many people said they ordered them. She looked at me weird and said "yah, like 30shawls on day out of the blue..." hehe

Date: 2004-06-06 05:42 pm (UTC)i saw some in my lys sale bin at $4 a skein, but I wasn't interested in trying to dig up enough skeins to make myself anything at the time (too bad now i realize) it looks like twine (silly comparison I know) but feels like cashmere.
